Crazy Cat Lady IX

A snowy morning and chilly day (currently 35 Degree F) leads to cozy snuggles with my babes!!  Here are a lot of photos I took throughout the summer of my boys doing what they do best!

(Cosmo regularly has spikes on his head from drinking water out of the faucet.  Of course, he can't just drink the water like a normal cat…instead he lets the water fall on the top of his head, run down his face, and drinks it as it drips off his nose)

State Capitol Tour

Ever since I relocated to Madison, I have been wanting to get a guided tour of the Capitol building. Well, after about a year, my other half and I finally made it a date! Corey had off work on Friday, so we spent much of the day downtown getting lunch at the food carts, stopping at "Fair Trade" for coffee, browsing the library and ending to lovely afternoon with a capitol tour.

We were able to go into all the main rooms in the Capitol and got a brief history lesson in each one.  We saw the Governor's office area, the Senate Chamber, the Assembly Chamber, and Supreme Court.  Each room was different but they all had a few things in common:  a lot of gold leafing, a lot of marble, large antique paintings, and a lot of natural light.

DIY Recycled Paper Cat Litter

diy cat litter
I found this awesome DIY project for homemade cat litter on treehugger.com (a site I am newly obsessed with!). I thought it was worth a try, especially since I always have a pile of newspapers laying around…mostly the unwanted shopper ads.

International celebrity fan-mail envelopes…found at an estate sale.  Will be added to my vintage shop…I'll give you more details when I officially revive the shop

Well loved and tattered hand sewn quilt for $2 found at a local thrift store!!  I'm spending the chilly evenings curled up under it while I slowly patch it up.

Big flea market haul!

1950s chairs bought for $10 at a small local flea market!  We finally got rid of the old bulky chairs we had and replaced them with these.  Now I'm on the hunt for a cool table…maybe a future DIY!

Oh, how I love the St. Vinny's Halloween section.  Found this gorgeous 1950s dress for $8

Brass bracelet from 1930s/40s.  Found it at a flea market for $1 and wear it almost everyday!
WWI era small flag.  Another great $1 find at a flea market!  The seller apparently inherited an entire estate and just wanted everything gone asap so almost everything they had was a dollar!
Nail/screws sack found at an estate sale.  I love how the eagle has screws in it's grasp!  This will be transformed into a new product very soon!

Simple Living: Downsizing to a Mini-Fridge

 photo DSCN8413_zps91b59052.jpg

We have officially downsized from a full size (18 cu. ft) refrigerator to a (4.4 cu. ft) mini-fridge with room to spare!!
I know, most people can't fathom making such a switch, but for us it was more than easy!  Our full size refrigerator was practically empty all the time, and that's not because we dine out a lot.  Here is why the switch was so easy:

Scenes From Summer

This was my first summer in Madison and I enjoyed it at much as I could!  Corey and I went on weekly dates to places in the city we hadn't seen/been to before.  I have a few more things to do on my list before it gets too cold and my holiday rush begins!

Beetle Time
I spent a good chunk of summer riding in this piece of machinery…going to car shows and simply going for a drive.  Surprisingly I didn't take any photos of my old moped this year. I rode it regularly, but mostly for quick runs to the post office or the library.

Nature
One thing I definitely made time for over the summer was, as my dad likes to say, "therapy" aka enjoying the great outdoors! Thankfully, I live only a few blocks from a couple of gorgeous lakes, a short walk away from the botanical garden, and too many parks to count within 30 miles (including Devil's Lake State Park).

Downtown
I go downtown quite often for the farmers market, coffee and shopping.  Unfortunately, I seem to always forget my camera!  Here are a few pics I managed to find.
